ICNS, located on the UCSD campus for the past 35 years, was founded by the Zonta Club of La Jolla and the Friends of the International Center to offer a place for children to socialize. Originally started in 1962 as a babysitting pool in downtown La Jolla, over the next several years the program became more formally structured into a nursery school and the program was located in various buildings throughout the La Jolla community prior to moving to its permanent building in UCSD’s International Center in 1971.
Today, we provide a fun and nurturing preschool experience for children ages two through five. Our program is designed to enhance each child’s physical, intellectual and social development through hands-on learning. The school’s educational philosophy is based on the premise that children learn through hands-on involvement with activities which they are motivated to learn. The curriculum includes art, music, creative movement, dramatic play, literacy, math and science.
Being a cooperative, parent participation and input is central to maintaining our school.
