School will be closed for the remainder of the week. We hope to reopen on Monday, October 29th. Please check your email and this blog for the latest updates.
We’d also like to know how everyone is doing. If you are able, please post a note in the comments to let us know how are you are, if you’ve been evacuated, what you might know about ICNS families that are unable to post, etc. We hope that everyone is doing well in spite of the craziness caused by these fires.
On a related note, I just received this message from Christina Augsburger (Julian’s mom)
I just wanted to see if any ICNS families needed help due to the fire. We live in North Park and the air quality is somewhat better than up by school, I imagine. I don't know if any of the families live in the evacuation areas, but you can post at the ICNS blog that if anyone needs anything, they can send me an email at:
I could watch a few kids at my house if someone needs some help with childcare.
At the moment it looks like some people are going to camp out in our backyard, so I can't offer to take anyone else in, but I suppose anything helps!
Hope you are fine,

Our family is hanging tight in the UTC area. Other than dealing with stir crazy little boys, we're doing fine. My in-laws are packed up and ready to evacuate their home in Fallbrook. Their home borders Oceanside and Camp Pendleton, so we're fairly confident that their house will remain safe.
As for other families, I have heard from Isa Sabey (Chloe's mom) and Emma Johnson (Oscar's mom). They are both taking their little ones to stay with family in Central and Northern California.
I hope this message finds everyone well!
Stephanie Palomo Schmidt (Nathan's mom)
Ruben's family here! We live in Normal Heights, just south of Interstate 8. We are trying to limit outdoor time, but still keep Ruben active! Ruben's grandparents were evacuated for one night, and stayed here with their pet parrot. Ruben thought it was great fun and wants to have slumber parties every night. We saw Tom and his mom today, they are doing well. I am worried about the long-term effects of breathing this air.
Many library branches are still open, and they are a good place to get out to!
Stay safe!
Gabrielle
I too, am worried about the long-term effects of breathing this air -- especially on the kids. But we have opted to stay put in UCSD student housing rather than travel north to the Bay Area to stay with family (complicated decision). We are also doing alright, but amen on the stir crazy little boys!
I wonder how Susie's family is doing? I'm pretty sure they are from the La Mesa area.
